Wrecked by Love

"Though I than He-may longer live
He longer must-than I-
For I have but the power to kill
Without-the power to die-"
--Excerpt from an Untitled Emily Dickinson poem

Love...that which supersedes all forces in the universe and defines a holy God.  It is understandable that love would be and could be all-consuming if we allow it.  This particular excerpt reminds me of the Shakespearean intensity between Romeo and Juliet.  To be enamoured and enraptured by love, captivated by attraction and longing--many have died and will die for the cause.  Some may judge against loving another person so ardently that it removes logical thought processes and function.  For when the person ceases to exist, those left behind lay in waste...no longer motivated to breathe.  Love was breathed into our lungs, poured into our veins.  We have been molded to need community and relationships.  To freely give the whole of the love we possess to another person is likely the greatest sacrifice we can muster.  And yet, how many people freely dispense the passion and joy abounding within their chest?
I am not afraid to love...I fear never being loved in return...and perhaps the latter fear is what impedes us from surrender.
I want to be wrecked by love...slapped unexpectedly in the face by the reality of pure devotion.
Do you?
