Whispers and Fingerprints

In my unfailing fallibility I have ascertained that following Jesus is really rather simple....we just tend to complicate the hell out of it.
If you seek to define that which motivates and sustains an authentic Christian....I believe you'll find that it's merely a collection of whispers and fingerprints....all that we speak in genuine love and affection and all that we touch.

I don't believe we have to scream and bully to be heard, prove ourselves, or change the world.  We can uphold righteousness and truth and still edify one another.  There does not have to be a war of words.  I believe Jesus watched people more than he spoke.  He knew people were listening for evidence of hope, discernment, and love in his voice.
I have spent more time listening to Christians stamp Jesus' name on their own agenda...as though Jesus was a marketing slogan.  "Jesus doesn't like gay people. Jesus doesn't approve of divorce. Jesus thinks women should shut up in church....."  Just what Jesus needs...a lot of PR from people with minds drowning in misinterpretation and hearts bleeding prejudice.
What must transpire for the perpetual loud voices to cease?  Jesus may have spoke with authority, but I like to think he spoke all the compassion and longing in a gentle whisper....

I wonder what it feels like to have your face touched by the fingertips of Jesus.  There are about 100 touch receptors on your fingertips, which makes them one of the most sensitive parts of the body.  I wonder what Jesus felt when he healed the sick, brought the dead to life.  Was it like an electric impulse...a surge of holiness...or was it a restored connection...like the peace I feel when I pick up a paintbrush....?
We cannot course through a single moment without touching something.  And a majority of the time we do not waste more than a second pondering the significance.
Jesus used his touch to heal, to console, to clear temples.  Every graze of his fingertips was purposeful and extraordinary.  Everywhere Jesus traveled, he left his fingerprints behind...on the tear-streaked faces of the mourning, on the hand-crafted eyes of the visually restored, on the splintered beams of a cross....

It is my belief that if we are to be true to the label of "Christian"....perhaps we should take heed to the whispers and healing touch of Jesus rather than skewing his words and actions into a life unrecognizable.  It is up to us...as the authentic representatives to echo and embody Jesus.  People are watching to see what we leave behind...all that we speak and all that we touch.
